All Packed and Sayin' Good-byes
Wednesday night brought all my family home again...for once! Thursday morning we took advantage of our chance at being together and had Amy Adams take family photos at Pilot Knob. After this the guys went home to work and we girls headed to Mason City to run some errands. Once I got home again, there was my packing and laundry to do before we headed off to Cedar Falls on Friday. The whole family that lives in the area got together at Grandma and Grandpa's for pizza, bosco sticks and homemade chocolate cake with white frosting. We had a good visit and Gabby got to see cousins and their kids and all before leaving.
Friday morning Gabby and I went to 7:30 a.m. mass and eyes lit up when Gabby walked in the door with me. Gabby grew up in St. Patrick's and was always everybody's "little girl". Now their little girl is grown up and venturing into the world. She'll always have a home at St. Patrick's though.
We got home and loaded the car and Gabby went out to the bins to give Grandpa a hug before heading off. He made her promise to come back sometime! We then got in the car and headed to Grandma's to say good-bye. Of course she loaded us up with chocolate cookies and Cheetos to take along with us (she wouldn't be Grandma if she didn't try to force food down your throat!). She even allowed a picture to be taken of the two of them. This good-bye was a little more difficult for Gabby. Grandma was pretty stoic though. Tears were dried and we hit the road for Cedar Falls.
Once we dropped off boxes at Gabby's place, we headed to lunch with Fr. Huber. We ate a nice leisurely lunch at L.J.'s Bar and Grill and caught up with all the latest happenings. He gave me some advice on how to deal with some things that are difficult for me now and we just basically enjoyed each other's company. Afterwards we headed to our cars and he gave "Gabby Hayes" a hug and told her to be good and keep in touch on facebook.
We got to Gabby's apartment and "oy vay"! Basement apartments have lots of dust and lost of spiders. We tackled the kitchen first and I cleaned the microwave and refrigerator thoroughly while she finished packing and got a start in the bedroom. Once I was done there we tackled the bedroom and FINALLY Mike and the boys got there and we all worked packing and cleaning until about 7:30. Everyone but me was starving so we packed it up and headed to Fazzoli's and ate a "last supper" of fake Italian food. Gabby and I then got in her loaded down, packed to the gills car and headed for our hotel where we are just about to crash.
Will fill you in on more tomorrow! Wish us luck and keep us in your prayers!
