Good day to all of you! We are just ending our another busy day. We were up once again at 5:45 and the bus left the hotel at 7:00 and headed to Assisi to the home of St. Francis and St. Clare. It was about an hour and a half bus ride and kind of a nice change to see sites outside the city of Rome. There was a lot of walking including a few hills and a lot of steps today. The streets there were not as rough as those in Rome, but were much narrower and we had to really watch out for the occasional car.
We toured the Basilica of St. Clare and then walked up to the Basilica of St. Francis. Following these, we at at a nearby hotel where we were served delicious lasagna, salad and a very rich custardy dessert. Mike asked what was in the dessert but only got the response of "You really don't want to know". I'm sure it was low fat and low calorie.
We then went to have mass in a lower chapel in the Basilica of St. Francis. Micah had the privilege of being the lector for this mass. Of course, picture taking in the basilica is not allowed, but the image of this will be forever in our memories and I'm sure it is an experience that Micah will not forget.
After that we toured the Our Lady of Angels Basilica of which you can see the golden Mary which is at the top of the dome of the basilica. The tour guides then took us on a surprise visit to a pottery makers who also had samples of wines, olive oils, chocolates and the like. We did get a few things to bring home to sample.
We got back after 7:30 this evening and so the rest of the pictures are of our evening. Craig said he never smiles, but Marlene and I proved managed to worm one out of him. The other picture is a group of us who gathered to visit and "toasting" Rome.
We actually get to sleep in a little tomorrow (if I can remember what that is!) as we are not going on the optional tour. We will probably go to mass with the padres and walk around the pantheon area. The weather was very sunny today but a little cool this morning.

What a wonderful experience for Micah. I can't wait for him to tell the Youth Ministry about it. The pics are great again. I feel like I am right there with you. Nice to see the mix of sight seeing and relaxing. The kids are really enjoying the blog, they ask as soon as they get home from school "Has Kristi blogged yet?" Continued best wishes to you all!
